COMPETITIVE PLAY SET UP
HOW TO PLAY
Competitive Play is a deeper trading experience where players must manage their stock, outbid rivals and earn the most profit by the end of the trading week.
(I) STARTING THE WEEK Each player begins the game with 25 Gold, tracked on their Beast Bazaar Trading Board. Your Trading Board is used to track your current Gold and profit throughout the game. Whenever you spend or earn Gold, move your marker accordingly. Each player also receives a Beast Bazaar Money Bag, which is used during customer bidding. Before the first day begins, each player chooses an Overseer card. Once chosen, an Overseer remains active for the entire game and cannot be changed. (II) TRADING DAYS Each trading day consists of 10 turns, representing 10 working hours. Starting with the first player and continuing clockwise, players take turns. On your turn, you must do one of the following: + Reveal one face-down Beast card. + Play one Action card and pay its Gold cost. Any Beast card that remains face down at the end of the day provides no value and cannot be sold to customers. (III) THE CUSTOMER DECK At the end of each round, reveal a card from the Bazaar Deck. Bazaar cards may introduce customers, market events, opportunities or challenges that affect all players. Resolve the card before continuing play. (IV) SELLING BEASTS When a customer enters the Bazaar, check the requirements listed on the customer card. If only one player has a suitable Beast available, that player automatically makes the sale. If multiple players meet the customer's requirements, a bidding round takes place. Each eligible player secretly places their lowest offer into their Beast Bazaar Bid Bag, you can only make an offer equal to or lower than the value of your own beast. Players then reveal their offers one at a time. The lowest valid offer wins the sale. The winning player receives payment according to the customer card and any applicable effects. (V) MANAGING STOCK Unlike Friendly Play, stock is limited. Once a Beast has been sold, it is placed into your discard pile and cannot be used again during the game. Action cards are also discarded after use and cannot be played again. This represents your stock and resources becoming depleted throughout the trading week. Staff cards may be used repeatedly between days. However, if a Staff card is removed by an opponent's action, it is permanently discarded and cannot return to play. (VI) END OF THE DAY When all players have completed their 10 turns, the trading day ends. Players update their Trading Boards to reflect: + Sales made + Gold spent + Action card costs + Staff costs + Other gains or losses Any effects that last until the end of the day are then resolved. (VII) STARTING A NEW DAY At the start of each new day: + Players receive their daily Gold allocation. + Staff cards remain available unless permanently removed. + Unsold Beasts remain available. + Sold Beasts remain in the discard pile. + Used Action cards remain in the discard pile. + Overseers remain unchanged. The trading week then continues. (VIII) WINNING THE GAME At the end of the final day, each player totals the profit shown on their Trading Board. The trader with the highest profit at the end of the chosen working week wins the game.
